Sarah awaits the return of her cousin Zachary whom she has adored since childhood, but Zachary returns shattered by the horrors of war and can barely face his family. Sarah throws herself into her job at Donnelly's tea rooms, and eventually decides to set up in business on the North Shore, running her own tea rooms.
