Publisher's Synopsis
This book focuses on three essential areas of development economics: methodology, agriculture and the role of government. Methodology is treated in a historical perspective and this section ties in with the one on agriculture which to a large extent focuses on the behaviour of farmers in the Third World ? a debated area in development economics. The section on government deals with the different roles of the state: policy making, plunderer and redistributor of income and wealth. Throughout, the concentration is on combining some theoretical principles with empirical material.
