Publisher's Synopsis

The story is set some time in the future when Scotland has become independent and has developed more or less into a one-party state. An independence movement grows in Shetland, encouraged by huge new oil finds and fomented by a charismatic orator. The Scottish government is having none of this and sends 'their woman' from the Scottish Intelligence Services to Lerwick to discredit the movement's leader. This woman is fiercely ambitious and will try any manoeuvre, however unethical, to achieve her goal. The theme of the book is very much like that of Macbeth: 'Macbeth does murder sleep' - i.e. pursue power too ruthlessly and you will end up destroying yourself.
