Publisher's Synopsis
Frodo has found the one who rescued him from his watery grave: Ébony daughter of Trition the ruler of the Atlantian empire. He takes her to the local Inn where he, Gandalf, the elves of the white pilgrimage and his other fellow halfings are staying. While Pippin who will do anything to break up Frodo and Ébony's growing relationship (and is still hoping that Frodo will change his mind and come home with him) the others are delighted with Ébony, especially Sam who sees so much of his old beloved master in her that he begins calling her Miss Ébony. On her first morning with the white pilgrims, she takes everyone to meet the elemental sprits of middle earth: Neck, a Kelpie (water, ) Edgecrest, a shapeshifting moth (earth, ) Pentacost a phoenix (fire, ) Airus the autumn wind of the south (air) and Northuldra an arctic fairy (frost.) During the meeting all five sprits enter a portion of themselves into each of the five hobbits so that by carrying their respect for nature whereever they go in order to resurrect them. After spending a whole day with each other, Frodo purposes to Ébony after hearing her sing, but the archbishop and a gentleman in waiting from Triton's court spies on them while they are looking for Ébony. So Triton responds by dragging Ébony and Frodo into the sea and locks him in jail. When Frodo fails to reason with Triton Gandalf bets the king that he can beat him in a tournament involving five dangerous magic games performed within five days. If Gandalf wins Triton will release Frodo and give him and Ébony his permission to merry, but if Gandalf loses Frodo will be doomed to spend the rest of et as a golden apple tree in the palace garden. Can Gandalf save Frodo from his prison cell deep within the ocean or will the element of water crumble without Frodo, leaving middle earth unsuitable for living in, not even for the most evil creatures?
