The Yellow Buoy is CK Stead's fifteenth collection of poetry, journeying from Croatia to Colombia, the Côte d'Azur to Karekare in his native New Zealand. Various literary figures drop in along the way, in person, dream or conversation: Catullus, Barry Humphries, Robert Creeley, Katherine Mansfield and many more. The Yellow Buoy also includes translated versions of poems by Eugenio Montale, Carlo Vita and Philippe Jaccottet.

CK Stead was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1932. Internationally acclaimed, he was awarded the CBE in 1986. His poetry and criticism have appeared in the London Review of Books, MPT, The North and The Warwick Review. His previous collections of poetry include The Right Thing (Arc, 2000), Dog (Arc, 2004), The Black River (Auckland UP, 2007) and Collected Poems 1951-2006 (Carcanet, 2009). His recent novels include Mansfield (2005) and My Name was Judas (2007), both published by Vintage. Stead's numerous prizes include the 2009 New Zeland's Prime Minister's Award for Fiction, the Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award and the Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine in 2010. One of only two writers to hold the Order of New Zealand, he lives in Auckland.
