The aim of the Day primary election-law is to substitute a secret nomination election for the nominating convention. The nominating primary is held seven weeks before the elec tion to allow time for a campaign. The pri mary election-day is also one of the registra tion days, so that a voter when he registers for the general election can cast a secret ballot for the nomination of candidates that he prefers.
