Publisher's Synopsis

  • First full-length English translation of major Polish poet Dariusz Sosnicki
  • Bilingual edition, with both the original Polish text and the English translation side-by-side
  • Dariusz Sosnicki's poetry is largely influenced by the photo albums of Wlodzimierz Puchalski (1908-1979), a well-known Polish naturalist, photographer and filmmaker, who made his name before WWII. According to the poet, the scale of grayness in his poetry correlates with the color blindness of Puchalski and his black-and-white photographs.
  • Dariusz Sosnicki's poetry is influenced by the "third cycle" of literature and publishing, which grew out of the alternative culture scene (rock music, comics), as well as the overall disagreement with the Polish literary scene of the '80s (which was divided into two currents: the official ono, supported by the regime; and the second, by the underground opposition).
  • The poem "Monster" from the collection is set to be published in the July 29, 2013 issue of The New Yorker, along with a bio and mention of the new book.
