The Rambler is a collection of 208 essays that were written over a period of two years and cover a wide range of topics. The Adventurer is a smaller collection of 140 essays that were written over a period of about a year. Both works are characterized by Johnson's wit, intelligence, and erudition, and are widely regarded as landmarks of English literature.
