This exploration of his words and music covers Newman's career chronologically, beginning in 1968 when he released his first solo album. The focus is primarily on his solo work, although there is a chapter dedicated to his work as a soundtrack composer for films such as Ragtime (1981), The Natural (1984), ¡Three Amigos! (1986), Pleasantville (1998), Leatherheads (2008), and the Toy Story trilogy (1995, 1999, and 2010).
