Publisher's Synopsis

The Witch & the Crow begins with the witch's arrival at the edge of a big city, a strange oasis in the middle of a large and forbidding desert. The witch is accompanied by a black, black crow who flies to her in the desert from some unknown location, landing on her shoulder and becoming her faithful, albeit exasperating, companion. To further complicate matters, a random magical event transports a horde of Siberian dwarf hamsters to the desert and one of them, a diminutive grouch named Violet, finds his way into the witch's pocket.

When the witch arrives in the city she has lost her beloved broom, and her regulation black witch clothing has been replaced by a brightly embroidered peasant costume. The witch and her cohorts enter the bustling city where the witch discovers to her dismay that in addition to the loss oflosing her broom and witch clothing, she has somehow gained a human-like conscience. Determined to rid herself of this unacceptable burden, and resolved to find her beloved broom and proper witch clothing, she travels sets off on foot into the city.

A series of untoward events leads to the discovery that some strange magic exists in the city that prevents her from being able to see many of the people whose help she needs. A jovial policeman befriends her and helps her to navigate the ins and outs and ups and downs of the city, introducing her to two other humans who also become her friends. In the series of adventures that follows, the witch is separated from her animal familiars, arrested by the police, and locked in a deep, dank dungeon. Her new friends work hard to find her and help her to regain her freedom, and ultimately, her missing wicked witchness.
