Publisher's Synopsis
India, China, Israel and the West Bank, the Europe of the Holocaust ... These far flung lands are joined with Phyllis Lober's American roots to produce a collection of poems which constitute an emotional and perceptive world tour. Dr. Lober consistently looks beneath the surface to reveal the best and worst of human nature, leaving us deeply-often painfully-aware of who we are. Dr. Phyllis L. Lober is an acclaimed teacher whose work and interests have carried her all over the world and taught her appreciation for her life's calling. This collection of poetry follows her heart's path around the world and back home again. She is listed in Who's Who in Education. She obtained her master's degree and doctorate in Educational Studies attending Long Island University, C. W. Post College, and Hofstra University. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including Cornell University and Shanghai Maritime University Outstanding Educator Award. Phyllis was also nominated for teacher of the year four times at the Commack School District on Long Island, New York. During her long career, she has been awarded many educational grants and fellowships including Pace University's Taft Fellow, and the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship awarded by Columbia University. The Fulbright took her to India where she was able to record one of the last interviews with India's Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. After her retirement, Phyllis was invited by The People's Republic of China to teach at Xuihui Teachers College and Language School in Shanghai. There she taught a curriculum used to train Chinese English teachers. She was hired by the Shanghai Maritime University to run their foreign language department, where she was in charge of foreign teachers. While in China, Phyllis co-authored The Teaching of English Skills with noted Chinese educators Rebecca Fan and Thomas Zhang.
