Publisher's Synopsis
An American expatriate living in 1970s Madrid struggles with the self-absorption of a stunning, indulgent expat lover, and responds to her rebuff by turning his booze-addled despair into a celebration of the vibrant Spanish city. Carousing with friends and sometime paramour he explores and discovers the waking post-dictatorship Spanish capital and environs while falling into a routine of careless misadventure.
When any hope of redemption with his heartthrob looks expired, a night stalker terrorizes his estranged lover, and she finally confronts her charmed existence. She chooses to rescue her selfish life, and tells her desolate lover she will begin with reconciling his attraction for her. He begs they move beyond their frivolous relationship and turn away from waywardness. He asks they start so by doing one decent thing with their lives, and suggests they find and stop the city's vicious prowler targeting their friends.
He reasons that their decency may place their lives in peril but will begin to cure their wasteful lives. He does not know it will end one or both.
