Publisher's Synopsis
The White Book of Stories by Bruce Adam and its companion volume The Black Book of Stories together probe the deeper questions of living in a world that wants us to see things in black and white, complicated by our own keen sense that there is more going on in between the spectrum of extremes. On the one side, we are in darkness, largely in ignorance. But how can we accept simple explanations of the meaning of life provided by those who do not want us to ask questions? On the other side, there seems to be plenty of light, but why do we feel the need to look deeper into ourselves, and why is that discouraged, even outlawed, in some places? These books move beyond the simple black and white to a mixture that cannot be avoided on the journey of the mind, into the subconscious and into parable, myth and dreams. We need to explore what is hidden, whether that be what is kept from us or what we would find in ourselves if we would only look to begin to survey the expanse of grey areas. The stories will both help those already seeking to continue as well as encourage others to begin the search within. As an added bonus, each volume includes two new Jimmer stories.
The holiness of God is like a white light: pure, simple, complete. But when that light shines, as it were, through the prisms of individual human lives, it breaks into an infinite variety of colors... each one reveals a unique dimension of the divine holiness. Robert Barron
