Publisher's Synopsis

The one who whispers in the dark written by H. P. Lovecraft in 1930 and published in August 1931 in Weird Tales. The story is told by Albert N. Wilmarth, a professor of literature at the University of Miskatonic in Arkham. When local newspapers claimed that strange things had been seen floating in the rivers during the historic flood of Vermont, Wilmarth is involved in the controversy over the real meaning of the sightings, although he is on the side of the skeptics, who blame the old Legends about monsters living in the uninhabited hills that kidnap those who venture too close to their territory.
