Publisher's Synopsis
This book is a collection of autobiographical vignettes of a nationally known motorcyclist, Piet Boonstra. It begins with his mother's experiences in an orphanage in Holland, and his father, a tailor of women's clothing who died of cancer at age 43. His stepfather, a building contractor, got Parkinson's disease and later suffered a fatal stroke. Piet writes about his own childhood, his school years, his beliefs, how his family survived during the Great Depression with their small farm and about serving 31/2 years in the Navy during World War II. He also writes about two years in the US Air Force, his motorcycling, and 25 years with IBM - starting as a computer test technician and later in various management and technical staff positions. He started riding motorcycles in 1946 and rode for 67 years. He met his wife Lillian in 1947 and they eloped on the bike and rode together for 52 years, until Lillian lost her long battle with breast cancer at age 72.
