In 1925 businessman Elijah Winters brings his daughter, Cherry, from Long Island to stay at a remote trading post in Arizona. Removed from the country clubs and speakeasies, Cherry is bored with ranch life, and to entertain herself she flirts with the cowboys. Then there is Stephen Heftral, a young archeologist searching for an ancient lost kiva of a primitive Indian tribe that disappeared centuries before. Heftral believes the kiva is in a desert fastness called Beckyshibeta. Elijah colludes with Heftral to awaken Cherry to a new, healthier way of life by taking her to the site, and amid the danger and beauty of the canyons she forgets the luxury of her pastand makes an important archeological discovery.
