Publisher's Synopsis
The year is 2005. Hip Hop is an exploding cultural force, and Tyrell Williams wants to make it as a rapper so bad he can feel it in his bones. Too bad it's hard to get street cred when you live with your grandparents. Reggie is his longtime friend and an up-and-coming drug dealer in Washington, D.C. He thinks Tyrell has what it takes to make it as a star. Together they are going to go on a tour of D.C. streets, where drugs, sex, and violence are just a heartbeat away. Carlos "The Dragon" Fuentes is an MS-13 enforcer brought down from New York to manage distribution deals that have gone bad. Maria, his wife, knows about his past and was eager to move to D.C. with their young son, but only because she thinks Carlos is going to turn away from the street life. With unforgiving masters to please and a young family to protect, this may be the last chance Carlos has to hold on to what little balance he can and-somehow, some way-start over. Tyrell and Carlos are both going to be playing the game from different sides, but they will face the same temptations and demons, and ultimately learn the worst lesson of all. Your life isn't the highest price you can pay on the streets.
