"This book is best described as a reference work on the VanDerveer family. My father could never trace his VanDerveer line back further than his great grandfather, and my challenge was to discover about the earlier lines. I began from the known to the unknown, but then turned my attention to the beginning and moved forward, and after several years of searching, was able to connect the family line. I am grateful to all of the authors who have gone before in tracing this family through articles in genealogical magazines, and to many emails and correspondence by genealogical groups. Most interesting, and enlightening were local histories, national histories, cultural histories, and museums.
