Publisher's Synopsis
The subject of the play is the conflict between belief and unbelief. There are many arguments, and the author introduces us to a family of devout believers. The son comes back from the war on leave with his belief gone. There is a widow who has lost both her sons in the war and who shocks everybody by her attitude of indifference. Her faith, too, is shattered.
