Publisher's Synopsis

The Trumpets of Death - is the third book in the series featuring Staverley, a university lecturer cum sleuth. Staverley is a sociologist who uses his research methods to solve mysteries. He is gentle and reticent but also persistent and obstinate. He is driven by an insatiable curiosity - which gets him into trouble.
The book is set in 1985 and 1937. Staverley is on sabbatical leave in Catalunya, ten years after the return of democracy. He is researching the impact of tourism on the Costa Brava and at the same time trying to find out about his father's experiences as a fighter for the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil war. The book mixes family secrets and love with politics, murder, corruption and betrayal.
