Publisher's Synopsis

Both as an artist and an architect, Sir Hugh Casson has long been fascinated by the extraordinary complex of images presented by the Tower. This is a unique collection of buildings dating from the 11th to the 19th centuries, full of interesting architectural detail as well as redolent with history. Witness to many splendid, sad and pivotal events in England's past the tower still has an important, function today as guardian of the Crown Jewels. This book of drawings and watercolours illustrate his impressions. Richard White contributes a complimentary and anecdotal text discussing the architecture of individual buildings in relation to the Tower's history. Sir Hugh Casson was President of the Royal Academy 1976-1984 and is author of "London" and illustrator of Sir John Betjeman's "Summoned by Bells".
