The core of the galaxy is a black hole with a mass millions of times that of the sun. It is surrounded by intense radiation belts extending light years out. Nothing can live in the core. The Galactic Trader's Captain, Virginia Stoll must face this threat, but first she must unravel the mysteries behind the Threat, what is it, what is its purpose, and what is behind it? The intelligent entity that is the Galactic Trader relies on Captain Stoll to solve its own problems, cargo consisting of entire civilization that change during the long flights between star systems; changes that cause havoc in the giant holds that contain hundreds of thousands of aliens. Solving one such problem almost costs her life, a life that has been made immortal at least from natural causes. The solution only adds more mystery to the Threat.The spaceship arrives at their next destination, only to find it under attack by monsters. The Threat has arrived, one giant ship attacking one planets, another forcing the protectors of this system to shield their planet from attack. To solve they mystery of the Threat, Captain Stoll, and her alien friend, Algitha must board the attacking ship, find out who is in control, stop the monsters, and solve the mystery of the Threat from the Core.
