Publisher's Synopsis

The Tenement was inspired by real life events. In the early '60s, the City of Boston collaborates with private investors to eradicate the old multi-ethnic West End neighborhood, and replace it with an office park and a high-end apartment complex. By labeling it a ghetto and under the guise of urban renewal, thousands of families are forced from their homes through eminent domain. The story intertwines and revolves around the families living in one tenement, including Mr. Lazzaro, an elderly Italian immigrant, and young Eddie Svegilio and his wife Anna. Leading the urban renewal on site is former West End resident Joe "Angel" Angelino, who has returned from Harvard as an urban planner. Eddie, aided by ally Mario, "Pretty Boy" Polito battles Angel to save the tenement, the family, and the neighborhood they have always called home.
