Feeder No. 9 and Feeder No. 8 both run to transformer banks and the potential is stepped down to 208 volts, 3-phase with neutral. Nearly all the Institute lighting is supplied by these two banks. Feeder No. 7 runs directly to the switchboard in the Electrical Engineering Department Substation. This board controls the motor generator sets, which ordinarily supply the power to all of the laboratories and research rooms in the department. Feeder No. 6 is intended primarily to furnish power for the electric furnaces in the Institute.
