Publisher's Synopsis

Most Biblical stories make the serpent out to be an evil creature from the very beginning, but that doesn't seem to be theologically accurate. There are several examples within the Scriptures where animals appear to perform some sort of task in order to fulfill the command of God (Numbers 21:4-9; 1 Kings 17:2-6; 2 Kings 2:23-25; Jonah 1:17; 2:10). This subservient attitude may also spill over into obeying angelic beings as well. For instance, when the demons in the possessed men saw Jesus walking towards them, they begged Him to allow them to enter the pigs (Matthew 8:28-34). Jesus authorized their request with no sign that a choice had been offered to the pigs. Though the Scriptures do not provide an exhaustive understanding on this matter, one can easily visualize the possibilities!
