Publisher's Synopsis

Tom was bored. With the long summer holiday stretching ahead he had nothing to do. He was looking forward to moving up to big school, which couldn't come soon enough for him. His mom and dad couldn't afford a summer holiday, so Tom with Bob, his faithful dog by his side, and his best friend, Toby, were on the lookout for some adventure although they didn't expect to find much excitement along the canals of the Black Country. When they spotted a strange man on the canal bank acting suspiciously, they thought nothing of it until news erupted of a robbery from the local jeweller's shop. Could the man they saw have anything to do with it they wondered? They decided to report their sightings to the police but didn't expect the result which changed both families' holiday plans, and brought Tom the present he had been longing for.
