All the classes, even the incoming freshmen, had already been, as it were, assigned and ticketed, so that it was only a kind of reunion for them and a taking up of the routine work of the year. But for the freshmen it was all new. They were strangers in a strange country. They knew in a hazy sort of way what would be done with them, but the detail was all novel, and they had not yet found their bearings. They were divided alphabetically into divisions in the first place. Now, as " G" came so near to "H" in the alphabet, it chanced that Harry and Dick were at once thrown together, and in their division was also Hall. Dick was much pleased when this transpired, for he could not have wished anything more fortunate. "Isn't this great luck? " Harry said to him as they came out. "Indeed it is," returned Dick, "and I'm mighty glad that Hall is in our division, too. He seems like a good sort." "Stearns and Ryerson will probably be in the same division, just as you and I are. It strikes me it was a good provision our respected sires took in the selection of these names. Suppose you and Stearns had been together and Ryerson and I, instead of the way it has turned out. Stearns and you hit it off so well, and Ryerson's tastes and mine are so nearly alike," Dick continued, with a vein of sarcasm.
