The book consists of a large series of episodes in the legend of the mythological king of Britain King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table. It was followed by The Story of the Champions of the Round Table, The Story of Sir Launcelot and His Companions, and The Story of the Grail and the Passing of King Arthur.
