Canyon Masterson was born in the Spokane Valley just south of Keystone South Dakota and started exploring his world in 1893. The gold mines and prospectors had been in the Black Hills for about 20 years and now ranches and tourists were starting to come and wanted someone to show them the sights and sounds of the back country he had grown up in. Canyon became the most famous trail guide in the Black Hills and matured into a well know entertainer and resort owner up in Yellowstone National Park.
