Fresh from her victories over the Sea People in the north, Pharaoh Queen Hatusu has returned to Thebes to find sinister threats emerging from its neighbouring province, Nubia. A secret murderous sect of Nubian descent known as the Arites, are waging bloody war against the Pharaoh. Imperial messengers and members of the Medjay, Egypt's elite army, are disappearing without trace around the Oasis of Sinjar. Now Imothep, formerly chief scout for the Spies of Sobeck, has been found strangled deep in a fortified room at his mansion. The Arites are on the hunt and Hatusu is marked for death.
