Publisher's Synopsis
The work opens to reveal the dominant character, Frank Bartholomew, at the end of the last century in the twilight of his life. Frank's life is revealed as a series of wanderings, a long adventurous journey that commences in the mid 1930s. Even before he leaves school, and in the short years before World War II, Frank experiences many facets of life and love. War and post-war circumstances intensify his ups and downs, the latter being set mainly in Brazil; earlier chapters also have a backdrop of the Americas: the Cayman Islands, Honduras and the United States.
