A Western novel with gunfights, a lost girlfriend, Indians, and the search for a new church location. Bobby Chase-the-Lord leaves Idle Springs, Utah Territory, and heads to California to build a church. Hired to work on a cattle ranch in the High Sierras, he finds trouble is lurking and his church may never get built. Clyde Sweeney, his so-called white brother, shows up to help Bobby. Daphne Merik, Bobby's girlfriend, travels with Clyde but but comes up missing along the Tules River.
