If you dispose of Roosevelt in that summary manner, how about Hiram Johnson? We in California know Johnson's caliber; we are apt to agree with Bryan in thinking and asserting that Johnson is more significant than Roosevelt, has a better record, and is more in sincere earnest. His socialism, however, is of precisely the same brand as that of Roosevelt, and it is aiming at very similar purposes of bulwarking the right kind of capitalism, in the interest of saving the system and perpetuating competition.
