Publisher's Synopsis
I unpublished this short-story because I plan on rewriting a much better version of it. In the original version, I portrayed left-wing activists in a very cartoony way. I portrayed them as simple dumbed-down caricatures of the real-life people who are seeking social change. These activists, commonly called "social justice warriors," have great intentions to help end racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia and general bigotry, but they have often times used fascist tactics to achieve their goals. When I rewrite the book (which will be a full-length novel) I want to give a nuanced portrayal of left-wing activists and show the complexities of the current political/social atmosphere. There will also be a parallel plot where a far-right wing group rises and causes a lot of destruction. The two sides will ultimately clash in an Armageddon battle. The new novel will be in the spirit of "Animal Farm." It will portray a liberal progressive group fighting for a great cause who unfortunately end up descending into madness and start using totalitarian means to achieve their ends. These activists wind up becoming the very people who they despise. I also plan on including a short essay at the very end to sum up my thoughts on the current political atmosphere. I apologize to all the people who were interested in receiving a copy of this novel now. I just wasn't happy with the original version, and I want to improve it greatly. I'll let everybody know when it's finished. Please be patient.
Update (October 2021): I'm still working on this novel, but admittedly I've made very little progress. I want to intricately make the story much better while also keeping the themes consistent with the original work that I published almost six years ago. As I've already stated, I decided to update the story because the characterization of leftists in the previous drafts were very cartoonish and an unfair caricature of them. The previous drafts were one big joke. I thought it was funny to describe the modern political left in this way. At the time I was more interested in creating something that would make me laugh than I was with developing a deep story. Even though nothing in the story was ever meant to be taken seriously, I did inadvertently show my biases at the time (my political views have changed), and I created a story that unfairly demonized a group of people. Two years ago, when I went back and reviewed it, I was not pleased with my work. The humor was shallow and the writing was very immature. I want to write a deep, nuanced story that will be critical of the negative aspects of the modern left and right (while also accurately describing their motivations and analyzing the political/social atmosphere and events that led to the formation of the current far-left and far-right). The story, when completed, should be in the same mold as "Animal Farm" and "1984." Through story telling and literary devices I will share my viewpoint on these things -- and hopefully it will be both thought-provoking and entertaining. I'm no George Orwell, but I'll definitely try my best. The book will also include a short essay summarizing my thoughts. Unfortunately, the story is coming along at a snail's pace. I'm having a very difficult time writing this. I hope I don't take as long to write this as George R.R Martin is taking to finish " The Winds of Winter," but I have to admit that I might be even slower than him. I apologize, but I ask that everybody please be patient. Note: This version will be a full-length novel. The previous drafts were technically novellas, but this new version will be much longer.
