Publisher's Synopsis

The Sisters of Soleure is a historical novel set in the 16th century, written by C. S. W. The story follows two sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth, who are sent to live with their aunt in the Swiss town of Soleure after their father's death. The sisters are raised in a strict Protestant household and are taught to value their faith above all else.As they grow older, Margaret becomes engaged to a young man named Ernest, who is also a Protestant. However, their happiness is short-lived when Ernest is arrested and imprisoned for his beliefs. Margaret is forced to flee to Germany, where she meets and falls in love with a Catholic nobleman named Count de Salinis.Meanwhile, Elizabeth remains in Soleure and becomes involved in a plot to overthrow the town's Protestant rulers. She is eventually caught and sentenced to death, but is saved at the last minute by her sister's intervention. The novel explores themes of religious conflict, love, and loyalty. It is a gripping tale of two sisters who must navigate the dangerous waters of 16th century Europe, where their faith and their lives are constantly at risk. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
