"6th May 1942 The USS Pigeon (AR-6) and barge and Army mineplanter the (USAMP) Harrison, with barge in tow, were loaded with wppden boxes that were full of silver pesos in canvas bags and then taken out into Caballo Bay and jettisonned into the bay in about (20) fathoms of water. The boxes contained about (17,000,000) pesos (or 7 to 8.5 million dollars). It took ten nights to move the (350) tons of silver to the floor of Caballo Bay ...
