As I was one day, many years ago, discussing some points in my Tales and Popular Fictions with the late Mr. Douce, he suddenly exclaimed Oh, that you had but my knowledge! What discoveries you would make! I believe he was right, and that, under more favourable circumstances, I should have done much; but it was not to be.
