A neighbour tells Miami ex-cop Simon Winter that she has seen a man who, in Berlin 50 years ago, had betrayed her family to the Nazis. When the neighbour is murdered, Winter discovers that other ex-Berliners who survived the camps also met early deaths, and that the deaths are linked.
