The Pirate Rupert is dreaded near and far for being a terrible pirate. He pillages and raids, as pirates do, but at night he cannot sleep. Deep in his heart, he doesn't feel good about what he is doing. He is actually a really nice guy! But the world has expectations of a pirate and he doesn't know if anyone will accept him if he's being his authentic self. This book is about his personal journey to connecting with his true desires and being accepted for them.
This book is appropriate for the second grade reading level but will also be appropriate as a read-along for kindergarten and first grade. A parent, grandparent, teacher, or friend who is interested in providing a child with the positive message that it is ok to be yourself in spite of outside pressures, will find that in this book.
Additionally, this book includes questions, written in partnership with a child psychologist, that help open up the discussion between you and your child(ren) about social expecations, peer pressure and being your authentic self. A custom muffin recipe is included so that you can continue the connection with your child after reading. And because pirates come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and genders, a page is included in which your child can draw a pirate that looks like them.
