The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, was published in 1911. It's the story of Mary Lennox, a young Englishwoman who, after the death of her parents, is placed in the care of her uncle Archibald Craven, residing at Misselthwaite Manor, located in Yorkshire. Mary discovers a charming walled garden there, but always locked. The mystery deepens when she hears noises and sobs coming from somewhere in the vast mansion. It is a famous novel of classical children's literature, and is the best known of the works of Burnett, translated into all the major languages of the world. Frances Hodgson Burnett, 24 November 1849 - 29 October 1924, was a British-American novelist, playwright, and children's author, and is best known for the three classic children's novels: Little Lord Fauntleroy (1886), A Little Princess (1905), and The Secret Garden (1911). She lived between England, France and the United States. She died in her Long Island, New York home, at 74.
