In the late summer of 1993, John McConley, a Scottish millionaire and successful entrepreneur, actually just wants to spend a few quiet days in his little cottage on a lake in Ireland. But suddenly Eve Faulkner is standing in front of him, the woman whose uncle was responsible for the death of his parents and whom he has not seen for almost a quarter of a century. Before they can get closer, they are attacked by strangers and Eve dies in John's arms. Shocked by the death of his first love, McConley starts his own investigation and gets caught in the middle of the war between the IRA and their protesters.
