Publisher's Synopsis
Orphaned at a young age, Melody Craven grew up depending on the charity of kindly relatives, so she had to be reconciled to being treated as second best to her dainty pretty cousin, Mary. But both girls fall in love with handsome young Roger Hallet, an officer serving in the British army in nineteenth-century India, who is briefly on leave in England. It looks as though the girls' friendship might be ruined by rivalry. However, events take an unusual turn when Melody meets Captain Adam Channing, an attractive but mysterious officer.
