Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Sayings of Jesus of Nazareth
Men have often desired to have them, free from their environment in the Gospels, so that they might be allowed to make their own unimpeded impression. And the desire has frequently been gratified in print. A new attempt must therefore not go out into the world of books without making some effort to justify its own special existence.
The earliest compilation of Sayings of Jesus is that now known as the Logia. It comes in all probability from the hand of the disciple Matthew. It is not this journal of Matthew's which is the subject of the present book but all the extant words which fell from the Master's lips, as they are recorded in the New Testament, and in the extra-canonical writings, so far as they can be judged to be genuine words of the Lord.
