Publisher's Synopsis
In March 1994, the newly revised and renamed Scholastic Assessment Tests replaced the old SAT. These SAT Video Courses have also been revised to help students do their best.
Used in thousands of classrooms, the SAT Video Courses meet the need for planned courses in SAT preparation, with all student and teacher materials included. These courses utilize interactive video-workbook instruction which is practical to use and effective in raising scores.
The new verbal test has eliminated the antonyms section, introduced longer reading passages with questions calling on critical reading skills and knowledge of vocabulary in context, and added a pair of reading passages for comparison. The new math test emphasizes application and interpretation, adds open-ended responses to some questions, and permits, but does not require, the use of calculators. Many other features of the original SAT are retained in the new version.
These interactive videotape-workbook courses provide schools with all they need to offer SAT preparation -- eliminating the need for lesson planning and instructor training. The two basic courses, verbal and math, cover all SAT content areas. Instruction is provided by expert presenters on videotape. Practice problems and homework are given in the student workbooks (and audiotape for the verbal course). Practice SAT exams are also included in the basic course workbooks. In addition, the video and workbooks contain orientation information and test-taking tips.
These courses are effective in raising SAT scores because they:
*build content knowledge,
*provide practice experience with the SAT,
*develop test-taking skills, and
*increase confidence and decrease test anxiety.
The Teacher's Guide provides lesson plans for covering the Verbal Video Course in 9 one-hour sessions and the Math Video Course in 11 one-hour sessions.
