But such was his condition, that after deliberating with his fam ily and friends, he acceded to it, pledging his honor that he would consider me blameless in case of failure. Fresh, very virulent pus was obtained from a child a few weeks old, suffering from purulent Ophthalmia. One drop was placed under each upper lid, the eyes closed with a light bandage. A violent in?ammation set in within twenty-four hours, accompanied with extreme chemosis, great oedema of the lids, purulent secretion very pro fuse. Constitutional disturbance not very great, and with the exception of the great tention of the lids, he did not suffer much pain. Opiates were not required, nor were any applications made to the eyes. Frequent cleansing of the pus with tepid water was the only treatment enjoined.
