What many initially assume may well be otherwise! Guus Calis (Bussum, 1947) sold his business in 1999 to study at the Open University in Amsterdam. He currently lives in Almere with Corry, his wife for 46 years. They have three daughters and six grandchildren. The author often frequents libraries and archives. Dutch naval heroes from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries are among his favorites.
