Publisher's Synopsis
Although Giles is an imaginary character the poverty, superstitions and beliefs of sixteenth century England were very real to the people living at that time. The common folk like Giles worked as slaves for the Lords, Bishops and Kings who ruled over them. It was God's arrangement and should never be questioned - so they were lead to believe. But winds of change threatened the established order. Church dogmas were being questioned by heretics and the loyalty of the Tudor Kings and Queens of England to Rome changed with each ruler. It was wise to profess the same religion as the current King or Queen to stay alive. In fact Death seemed to lurk on every corner. Disease took many and executions many others; heretics were burned, thieves were hung and those unfortunate enough to be accused of treason were either beheaded or hung, drawn and quartered. Giles, like everyone else often wondered what death was, but like most it was a subject he rarely mentioned. Nevertheless in time he did find out, and to his great surprise it was not at all as he had been led to believe. After a long sleep he woke up in a new world, very different from the world he had known. The question as to how he had arrived there and all the other questions that had puzzled him for so long were then soon answered in an extraordinary way. Millions upon millions of people have lived and died and long been forgotten and yet they were all real people with feelings like ours, with their loves and hates, a family and a story to tell. Giles is given the opportunity to tell his story and is even given the chance to live his life over again without making the same mistakes. Could a world of peace and harmony really be the final destiny of mankind where a second chance at life is possible and where the stories of those forgotten millions may be heard?
