Katie is excited to meet her teenaged grandson, Noah, for the first time. Despite a long estrangement from her son, Thomas, she is hopeful that having Noah on the farm for the summer will be the beginning of a new relationship and a healthier family. Noah, however, is a reluctant guest because he will be leaving the security of his tutor, Mr. Briggs, and the safety of an isolated life. He is also nervous that his secret feelings will be discovered and, once again, he will lose the love of his family. Eli, Katie's lifelong friend, longs to meet Noah and get to know the boy that he already loves, but with the coming of Noah, Eli understands his own decades old secret may be revealed - a secret that will tear all their lives apart.
