As a lifelong fan of hip hop music, I have always been fascinated by the cultural significance of promethazine and codeine cough syrup, also known as "purple drank," "lean," and other names. In fact, I can remember the first time I was allowed to sip from my brother's cup and experiencing the effects of the syrup for myself.
In writing this book, "The Recipe for Actavis," my goal was to explore the history and cultural impact of promethazine and codeine cough syrup, from its origins as a prescription medication to its widespread use in the hip hop community. I wanted to delve into the origins of the Actavis brand and its evolution over time, as well as the role of artists in popularizing the syrup's use.
I also aimed to examine the cultural impact of promethazine and codeine cough syrup, including its influence on music and media, fashion and style, and the controversy surrounding its recreational use. I hope that this book will provide a comprehensive look at this important and enduring aspect of urban culture.
