Weary of society life, Giles Maltravers, the rakish Earl of Longwood, decides to flee it. Meanwhile, Anna Lawrence, nineteen and inspired by Lord Byron's poems, also determines to escape and seek a life of travel and adventure. Then, when Giles rescues Anna from her first escapade, despite her resolve to demonstrate her independence, he finds himself rescuing her from one potential disaster after another.
